Interior Painting FAQ
What is included in your interior painting preparation?
Preparation includes protecting floors and furniture, masking trim, baseboards, fixtures and cabinets, patching holes and dents, sanding surfaces smooth, and caulking along baseboards, trim, or cabinets where needed. The initial protection preparation usually takes us one day to complete. Proper preparation is what creates a clean, long-lasting finish and prevents issues after the paint dries. A good way to think about it is whatever is under the paint is inevitably going to show through so it must be prepared properly, especially walls where the daylight shines directly on it.

Do you include patching and sanding before painting?
Yes. Surface preparation is a core part of our process. We typically complete at least two rounds of patching and sanding — and sometimes more depending on wall condition — to ensure imperfections are corrected before paint is applied. Keith is known for his meticulous eye for detail and you will see this reflected in the work.
How many coats of paint do you apply?
We apply two full cuts and coats of high-quality paint from Benjamin Moore or Sherwin Williams for proper coverage and durability. In certain situations, additional coats may be required for full opacity, and this is discussed during the estimate process.
What kind of paint do you use?
We use premium coatings from Benjamin Moore and Sherwin-Williams, carefully selected based on the specific surface and environment. Different areas of a home require different performance characteristics, and matching the correct paint to the surface is essential for durability and long-term results.
For example, doors, trim, and baseboards experience frequent contact and scuffing, so we use durable formulations designed to resist wear and maintain a smooth finish. Cabinets require coatings with strong adhesion and excellent washability to withstand daily use. Bathrooms — especially those without windows or customer preference— demand high-humidity formulations such as Benjamin Moore Aura® Bath & Spa to prevent moisture-related issues.
We take the time to purchase the correct product for each surface and application. We do not substitute lower-grade materials or “box store” versions. Proper product selection is a key part of achieving a finish that looks better and lasts longer.
Exterior Painting FAQ
Do you pressure wash before exterior painting?
Yes. All exterior projects begin with pressure washing to remove dirt and debris. Surfaces are allowed to dry properly before preparation and painting or staining begins. Proper cleaning is critical for paint adhesion and long-term durability in Alberta’s climate.
Can soffit and fascia be painted instead of replaced?
In many cases, yes — as long as the material is structurally sound. With proper cleaning, preparation, and professional spraying, soffit and fascia can be refreshed without replacement, providing a cost-effective and long-lasting update.

How long does exterior paint last in Alberta?
Longevity depends on surface condition, sun exposure, and preparation quality. With proper prep work and premium exterior coatings, exterior paint can last many years despite Alberta’s temperature swings and weather conditions.
What is included in a garage door or exterior spray project?
Garage doors and exterior trim are pressure washed, thoroughly masked with paper and tape to protect surrounding areas, primed when necessary, and finished with two coats of premium exterior paint for a smooth, factory-like finish.

How do weather conditions affect exterior painting projects?
Exterior painting in Cochrane is dependent on weather conditions. We monitor temperature, moisture levels, and forecasted rain carefully to ensure proper adhesion and long-term durability. Certain surfaces — especially decks and other horizontal areas — require several dry days both before and after application to allow proper preparation and curing.
Because of this, exterior bookings are scheduled tentatively and may need to shift if weather conditions are not suitable. We cannot guarantee exact start dates for exterior work, as quality and safety must come first. That said, we do our absolute best to accommodate scheduling needs whenever possible, especially if there are specific timelines such as family visits or home events.
What kind of paint do you use for exterior projects?
For exterior painting, we use premium Benjamin Moore coatings selected based on the surface type and exposure conditions. Wood gables and natural wood features are finished with high-quality Benjamin Moore exterior stains designed for deep penetration, protection, and long-term durability.
For surfaces such as doors, Hardie board, trim, and other siding materials, we use Benjamin Moore Aura® Exterior in a low-lustre finish. This coating is formulated to withstand Alberta’s fluctuating weather — including intense sun, temperature swings, rain, and seasonal changes — while maintaining colour retention and durability.
Selecting the correct exterior product is critical. We match the coating to the material and environmental exposure to ensure proper adhesion and long-lasting performance.

Pricing & Process
Why are some painting companies in Cochrane cheaper than others?
Lower quotes often exclude preparation work, primer, or additional coats, and may charge extra once the project begins. Our quotes reflect the full scope discussed during the walkthrough so you know exactly what is included before work starts.
How much does interior painting cost in Cochrane?
Interior painting costs vary depending on the size of the space and, most importantly, the condition of the walls at the time of the walkthrough. We carefully assess all surfaces and determine what preparation steps are necessary to achieve the smooth, clean finish you expect as a homeowner.
Our approach starts with the standard of fresh drywall and works backward — identifying the patching, sanding, caulking, priming, and surface corrections needed to bring your walls back to a like-new level. The quote reflects the work required to meet that agreed-upon standard. It is not about upselling or adding unnecessary services; it is about delivering a finished result you feel proud of and comfortable living in.
What factors affect the cost of an interior painting project?
Several factors influence the final scope of an interior painting project, and many relate to preparation and detail work.
During a walkthrough, we assess wall condition and categorize repairs as low, medium, or high depending on the number of dents, holes, cracks, or previous patch jobs that need correction. Surface condition directly affects the amount of patching and sanding required before paint is applied.
Colour selection also impacts labour. Multiple colours increase masking time and require precise cut lines where colours meet. Lighter colours applied over medium or dark existing colours may require primer to ensure proper coverage. If previous ceiling colour bleeds into wall lines, additional ceiling coverage may be needed for clean transitions.
Staining from grease or water damage — especially in kitchens and bathrooms — requires sanding and stain-blocking primer before painting. Walls exposed to strong natural light often reveal surface imperfections more clearly and may require extra attention or additional coats.
Accessibility also plays a role. Stairwells and awkward high areas may require specialized ladders and added time to ensure safe and precise application.
Each of these factors contributes to the preparation needed to achieve a consistent, high-quality finish.
Will the final price change after the project starts?
No. The price remains consistent with the agreed scope. The only time pricing changes is if additional work is requested beyond what was originally discussed.
Do you subcontract your projects?
No. All projects are completed directly by Keith and April. We do not subcontract work or rotate inexperienced crews. The same professionals who provide the quote are responsible for the finished result, ensuring consistency, communication, and accountability from start to finish.
What do your reviews say about your work?
Our reviews consistently reflect detailed preparation, clean job sites, clear communication, and pricing that does not unexpectedly increase. Homeowners frequently mention the smooth finish, careful cut lines, and attention to repairs before paint is applied. We aim to deliver the same level of quality described in every review.
Are you the cheapest option in town?
No, we are not the cheapest—and for good reason. Achieving a high-end finish takes time, intricate skill, and high-quality materials. We work with homeowners and contractors who appreciate the difference that expert craftsmanship makes. If you’re price shopping or on a tight budget, we may not be the best fit. But if you want a painting company that delivers lasting beauty and precision, we’d love to work with you.
Move-In & Move-Out Painting FAQ
Can you provide a quote for move-in painting without seeing the property first?
We require an in-person walkthrough before providing a final quote. Wall condition, previous repairs, colour changes, accessibility, and overall wear significantly affect preparation time and material requirements. Without physically assessing the space, it is not possible to provide an accurate and responsible price.
Providing one clear, agreed-upon quote is extremely important to us. We do not underquote to secure a project, and we do not return mid-project to request additional payment for items that should have been identified during the walkthrough. Seeing the property first ensures that the scope of work and pricing are properly aligned from the beginning.

What is included in move-in or move-out painting?
Move-in and move-out painting can range from a simple wall refresh to a more detailed refurbish. Some homeowners request fresh paint on walls with light repairs, while others prefer a more comprehensive approach that includes patching, sanding, trim updates, and touch-ups. The scope depends on the condition of the home and the standard you would like to achieve before moving in or listing the property.
Do you offer one-coat refreshes for rental turnovers or move-outs?
Yes — the scope ultimately depends on the homeowner’s goals and the condition of the space. In some cases, a light one-coat refresh may be appropriate to reduce scuff marks and improve overall presentation. If the walls are already in good condition and the owner prefers a simpler update, that is absolutely something we can accommodate.
Every property is different, and we see a wide range of needs depending on the situation. Our role is to assess the space honestly and work with you to determine the level of preparation and finish that makes the most sense for your timeline and budget.
Is move-out painting necessary before selling a home?
Fresh paint can significantly improve a home’s presentation, especially if walls show wear, dents, or outdated colours. Neutral, clean finishes help potential buyers focus on the space rather than surface imperfections. Even a partial repaint can make a noticeable difference in overall appeal and sale price.
